Our Philosophy: Action is the Result of Clear Decisions
We're surrounded by clutter. Clutter in our inboxes, clutter on our desks, clutter in our homes. Clutter is (seemingly) everywhere!
Even more problematic is the clutter in our schedules and in our minds. It's harder than ever to take a breath, cut through the noise and make important, life-changing decisions.
So how do you do it? How do you clear the clutter? How do you give yourself the space you need to make smart decisions?
In my experience, getting rid of clutter isn't the answer. You'd have to relinquish everything and live on a deserted island to make it work. No, the secret to cutting through clutter is to set priorities. Ask yourself what's really important, and then create an action plan to get you there.
And this is never more true than in financial planning. Most of us don't give our financial health the time and attention it deserves. We vow to squeeze it in as soon as we have time. But then that time never comes.
Clearing Clutter Takes Time and Commitment
That's why we insist our clients dedicate a block of time to sit down with us. And that means putting down the clutter, stepping into our office and closing the door. You have to leave your guilt, regrets and anxiety outside. Put aside whatever is preventing you from addressing your financial situation head on. Then, we roll up our sleeves and get started.
During this 90-minute meeting, we'll talk about your goals and establish your priorities. We'll then set down a concrete action plan to get you where you want to go. With our years of experience, (and I've been doing this for over 25 years) we've gotten pretty good at asking the right questions to help you through this process.
And this initial meeting is just the start. It's too easy to check financial planning off your list and then continue living exactly as you had before.
That's why we regularly touch base with our clients (usually every quarter but, at a minimum, every six months). In these follow up meetings and calls, we assess how things are going and what changes we need to make. We review your priorities and adjust your portfolio if needed.
There's No Shortcut
Unfortunately, the road to financial security has no shortcuts. Popular automated tools, such as online calculators, are no substitute for customized, knowledgeable support from an experienced planner. A five minute, automated assessment won't provide you with the depth of understand and guidance you need to reach your goals. It also can't provide you with encouragement and motivation to get you past bumps in the road.
Not that automated tools are totally worthless. If you're in the early stages of financial planning, they can help spark useful discussion. But they're no substitute for the real thing.
If you're ready to clear the clutter and get serious about your financial future, give us a call. We're ready to get started when you are.
