Our Philosophy: Happiness and Success are Necessary to Breed More Happiness and Success
Clients come to us when they need financial advice. So we meet and talk about their goals and current financial situation. And often, the conversation comes around to other challenges they're having in their lives. They hate their job. They don't like where they live. They want to spend more time with their kids. They wish they could travel.
Basically, they're unhappy. They aren't living the kind of life they once imagined for themselves.
What we've learned over the years is this: It's extremely hard to breed happiness and success when you have none (or very little).
People get stuck in "the way things are." They're scared to make big changes. So instead they continue, trying to grow a new life on the same infertile ground. It just doesn't work.
You Need Some to Get Some
You've probably heard the saying, "It takes money to make money." And in some ways, it's true. When you have savings, you can take advantage of opportunities when they come up. If you don't have savings, you miss out.
We saw this in the market crash of 2008. Opportunities were everywhere. And people with the means to take advantage of them did very well. People who didn't felt the crash even more sharply.
The same concept applies to happiness and success. You need some happiness and success to grow more happiness and success. Which often means making significant changes.
It's Easier to Look Outside Than Inside
The necessity of change to get unstuck seems obvious when we look at others. We think, "She really needs a new job" or "They need to find a new place to live" or "He/she should ditch that boy/girlfriend."
But it's not so obvious when we look at ourselves. We have blind spots. We don't see how our choices are undermining our happiness and success.
I'm a financial advisor, not a counselor. But I am in the privileged position of witnessing the struggles of my clients. And I've seen other clients struggle with the same issues.
I'm not afraid to point out my clients' blind spots. Things that seem inevitable to them often aren't. They have choices. And I've seen many clients make big changes and come out the other side happier and more successful.
So when you join us as a client, know I'll always be honest with you about your options. You may not always like what I have to say. But I'm going to say it anyway.
And I'm not saying it to pass judgment or criticize. I'm saying it so you can see all your options—and make your choices with both eyes open.
